Score for “A Dance Away”

Movie scores are one of my favorite things, so you can imagine how excited I was when my friend, Maxwell Gilbert, a creative media major at UA, asked me to score his short film, “A Dance Away.”

The story follows a dancer named Ava who is traumatized by an ankle injury and struggles to continue her performance career. Her friend comforts her by giving her a small necklace. When Ava tries it on, strange things begin to happen, and she is transported to an alternate world.

The score is a mix of electronic and orchestral landscapes that paint an ethereal dream into the viewer/listener’s mind. To achieve a cohesive score, I used various leitmotifs to personify the necklace, confidence, Ava, etc.

The music was written in Musescore and edited in Adobe Audition, where I also added a few extra sound effects from Pixabay.

The Tag Rhapsody

I had the amazing opportunity in late 2024 to compose a piece of music for a the Emerging Choreographer Showcase at UA. Choreographer Katelyn Midgett wrote and organized “Tag,” a dance taking inspiration from masquerade and darkened theater. Six masked dancers question each other in a ruthless game of tag.

Crimson Warp Reveal

Meant to accompany a social media video for Bama TPED showcasing a new theme park concept originally called Bamaland but later changed to Crimson Warp. The video version can be found here.

Inside Denny Chimes

Bama TPED created a theme park concept with a southern, Alabama focus that incorporated various landmarks in the state. The main focal point of the park was a The University of Alabama’s Denny Chimes (because why wouldn’t we, roll tide), but this iconic landmark came with a fantastical twist.

I decided to accompany this project with a soundscape of what this hypothetical structure would feel like. These fantastical chimes take on a half-steampunk, half-ancient ruins feel, and so does the music. With references to the Westminster melody and even UA’s fight song, it finally culminates to a clock-chiming sequence.

(I did not create the extra sound effects; those are from Pixabay), but I did create the music in Musescore.

Jazz Cafe

This short piece of music is meant for background music to videos. Frankie Wink asked me to make some music for her real estate videos, and so I chose to write a faster, smoother jazz piece to draw viewers in.

Cinematic Prelude

Meant to support a film score, this orchestral piece acts as an overture to a few themes I was playing with to make an instrumental soundscape with leitmotifs.
